‘Saturday Night Live’ Adds Two New Writers

Saturday Night Live is bringing in two new writers for its upcoming 40th season. I’ve learned that Nick Rutherford and Alison Rich (Smurf Misunderstandings) are joining the late-night sketch show’s writing staff. Rutherford’s hire reunites him with the other three members of the Good Neighbor sketch group, Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney and Dave McCary, who all joined last season. Bennett and Mooney have been featured players, while filmmaker McCary has served as a segment director. SNL previously did the same with The Lonely Island Guys comedy troupe, with Andy Samberg as cast member and Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone as writers.

SNL in July cut three first-year cast members, Brooks Wheelan, Noël Wells and John Milhiser. Boss Lorne Michaels has been meeting new cast hopefuls.
