Alcon TV Group’s ‘The Expanse’ Acquired by Legendary Global TV Distribution

Legendary Global Television Distribution will represent all television and digital rights outside of the U.S. to Alcon Television Group’s space odyssey The Expanse. The series is the first to be sold through Legendary TV’s international division launched last spring and headed by former Sony TV international boss Michael Grindon. The Expanse is slated to go into production this fall and Legendary will begin shopping it to clients immediately. Syfy commissioned the series in the U.S. for premiere in the summer of 2015.

Based on James S.A. Corey’s series of novels, The Expanse is set 200 years in the future. Starring Thomas Jane and Shohreh Aghdashloo, it follows the case of a missing young woman who brings a hardened detective and a rogue ship’s captain together in a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history. Oscar-nominated screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (Children Of Men, Iron Man) are attached as writers and exec producers.
