Patti LuPone Joins ‘Penny Dreadful’; Pair Upped To Regular For Season 2

Broadway icon Patti LuPone will come aboard as a guest star for Season 2 of Showtime’s drama Penny Dreadful, which kicks off production this month in Dublin on 10 epiosdes to premiere next year. Meanwhile, Helen McCrory, who plays spiritualist Madame Kali, and Simon Russell Beale, who plays Egyptologist Ferdinand Lyle, have been upped to series regulars.

LuPone, a Tony winner on Broadway for Evita and Gypsy, will play a mysterious character of great importance in the life of Vanessa (Eva Green). LuPone’s recent TV credits include American Horror Story and an arc in HBO’s Girls.

Penny Dreadful, which averaged just under 5 million viewers a week on all of Showtime’s platforms for Season 1, also will have fellow Tony winner Douglas Hodge, Sarah Greene and Jonny Beauchamp guest star in the new season.
