Update: Global Showbiz Briefs: DWA/Studio Mir Relationship Clarified; Veteran Aussie Actor Bill Kerr Dies; More

UPDATE: DreamWorks Animation has clarified statemens by Korea’s Studio Mir which were erroneously reported in the local press late last week. The company is in the process of working with Studio Mir to finalize a possible production agreement for one series, and has not inked a deal with Studio Mir for the latter to produce as many as four cartoon TV series during the next four years. DWA says it would be engaging the studio on a work for hire basis, meaning it would not be a co-producer and would not gain any interest in DWA’s intellectual property. The Korean animation studio is known for 2D fantasy series The Legend Of Korra, which airs Stateside on Nickelodeon.

Bill Kerr, the Australian actor known as “the boy from Wagga Wagga,” died Thursday in Perth. He was 92. Kerr was a radio and vaudeville star before moving to the UK in 1947. There he became one of Tony Hancock’s sidekicks on the radio version of the popular BBC program Hancock’s Half Hour in 1954. He later appeared on British TV series including Doctor Who and The Dam Busters. Kerr returned to Australia in 1979 and had a key role in the World War I epic Gallipoli (1981), Later credits include the Oz miniseries Anzacs, horror film Razorback and the 2003 version of Peter Pan.

Premiere Entertainment Group has picked up foreign sales rights to the crime thriller 7 Minutes and will take it to Toronto. Written and directed by Jay Martin, the pic stars Luke Mitchell, Jason Ritter, Kris Kristofferson, Leven Rambin and Zane Holtz in the story of three desperate friends who are forced to commit a brazen robbery, which quickly goes horribly wrong. 7 Minutes is produced by Jacob Aaron Estes, Jacob Mosler and Rick Rosenthal, with Nick Morton and Jim Hart serving as exec producers.
