Garry Marshall’s ‘Double Indemnity’ Play Will Star ‘Mad Man’ Pete Campbell
Off-Broadway’s ever-fecund Vineyard Theatre has nabbed Vincent Kartheiser — who plays obnoxious ladder climber Pete Campbell on AMC’s Mad Men — for its upcoming show about the filming of Double Indemnity. Hollywood demi-god Garry Marshall (do I really have to list credits?) repeats as director of Mike Bencivenga’s Billy & Ray, which had its world premiere in spring, 2013 at Burbank’s Falcon Theatre.
Kartheiser will play writer-director Billy Wilder opposite the novelist Raymond Chandler of Larry Pine, a New York stage veteran currently seen in Netflix’ House Of Cards and Jonathan Demme’s A Master Builder. Bencivenga’s comedy centers on the fractious collaboration that produced the 1944 noir classic starring Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray. Billy & Ray starts previews October 1 at the downtown theater, officially opening on the 20th.
