Participant Joins DreamWorks On Spielberg Cold War Pic & ‘The Light Between Oceans’

Participant Media and DreamWorks Studios, which teamed on their sixth film The Hundred-Foot Journey this summer, will continue their partnership on Steven Spielberg’s untitled Cold War pic and the upcoming adaptation The Light Between Oceans. Spielberg’s true story spy tale stars Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance and Amy Ryan in the story of James Donovan, an attorney sent by the CIA to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. Joel and Ethan Coen penned the script. Twentieth Century Fox boarded the project as co-financer in June and will distribute the pic internationally. Filming is set to start next month in New York and Berlin. Spielberg is also a producer alongside Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger, while Adam Somner and Daniel Lupi are exec producers. Disney has set an October 16, 2015 release.

Participant is also aboard for period drama The Light Between Oceans, which begins filming next month in New Zealand and Australia. Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Rachel Weisz star for writer-director Derek Cianfrance in the film adaptated from M.L. Stedman’s novel about a lighthouse keeper and his wife, who make a life-altering decision when a boat washes ashore with a dead man and a baby inside. Heyday Films’ David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford are producing. Disney will release The Light Between Oceans domestically and in some international territories with Mister Smith handling Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Participant and DreamWorks teamed previously on Lincoln, The Help, The Fifth Estate, The Kite Runner, and The Soloist.
