RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘MasterChef’ & ‘Hotel Hell’ Rise, ‘Mistresses’ Hits Low, ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Slips In Return

Gordon Ramsay was on fire last night, with both of his Fox Monday series up double digits from last week. MasterChef (2.0 in adults 18-49) was up 11% from last Monday’s fast nationals and again was the highest-rated program of the night in 18-49. Hotel Hell (1.5) was up 15%. It wasn’t just fun and gains last night, with both ABC and NBC in negative territory week-to-week. ABC’s Bachelor In Paradise, the latest extension in the dating reality franchise, was down a tenth from last Monday’s fast national. Drama Mistresses (0.7) tumbled 30% to a series low in Live+Same Day.

Running Wild With Bear Grylls proved how guest-dependent it is. After flying high with Channing Tatum last Monday, the adventure reality series (1.2) fell 20% with Ton Arnold as Grylls’ travel buddy. The drop is expected to be even bigger as NBC’s fast nationals were inflated by a football preemption in Cleveland and will likely be adjusted down a tenth in the finals. That also goes for American Ninja Warrior (1.9), currently off a tenth from its most recent original. CBS’ Under The Dome (1.5) was even with last week’s 18-49 series low and up 5% in total viewers (7.23 million).

The CW premiered the 21st (!) cycle of America’s Next Top Model (0.4) at 9 PM. It was down a tenth in 18-49 from last season’s two-hour opener on August 2 but posted the network’s best 18-34 (0.5) rating in the hour in more than a year and a half. The reality veteran had a solid lead-in from the season finale of Whose Line Is It Anyway (0.6, even with its fast national last week). A Whose Line repeat at 8:30 PM (0.7) logged the improv series’ most watched (1.93 million) and highest rated telecast in adults 18-34 (0.7) in a year. The CW had its highest rated Monday night in 18-49 (0.6) in almost two years (12/17/12, Gossip Girl finale) and its highest-rated Monday in 18-34 (0.6) since 2/4/13. Fox is currently tied with NBC as No. 1 for the night in 18-49, CBS is first in viewers (5.50 million).
