‘Childhood’s End’ Miniseries Nears Green Light At Syfy, Taps Director

I hear Syfy is ordering to production Childhood’s End, a six-hour miniseries adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s Childhood’s End from The Social Network producer Michael De Luca and Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind). British helmer Nick Hurran (Doctor Wh0) has come on board to direct the mini, written by Doctor Who writer Matthew Graham. It follows a peaceful alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious Overlords, whose arrival ends all war and turns the planet into a near-utopia. Childhood’s End, produced by UCP and exec produced by De Luca and Goldsman,  was one of several long-form projects announced at Syfy’s 2013 upfront, before the network made a change in the top programming post, with Bill McGoldrick replacing Mark Stern. (Stern has since been tapped to run IM Global’s TV venture.) Childhood’s End is the first project from that slate to get a green light at Syfy. Another,  The Man In The High Castle, was recently picked up to pilot at Amazon.
