Top IMG Exec Exits WME-Owned Company

Three months after the official consummation of WMG’s $2.2 billion deal to acquire IMG, the president of IMG Sports and Entertainment is headed for the showers. College sports specialist George Pyne is leaving to launch a new venture but will remain a senior adviser to WME-IMG, the company said. Here’s the brief release:

NEW YORK (August 12, 2014) – George Pyne, the President of IMG Sports and Entertainment, will be departing from the company to create a new venture after leading IMG’s global sports and entertainment businesses. Mr. Pyne will remain a senior advisor to the company.

“It has been an honor to work for IMG, the greatest sports marketing company in the world, and a privilege to collaborate with so many talented men and women, whom I would like to thank for the invaluable experiences we have shared. I would like to also thank the amazing clients I have worked with over the years,” said Pyne. “Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell are entrepreneurs and dynamic leaders whom I greatly respect and admire, and I look forward to collaborating with them as I take this next step.”

Pyne continued, “I will outline the goals and objectives of my new venture at the appropriate time.”
