Walt Disney To Cross $1B Domestically Today; Follows $2B International Mark Earlier In Week

Buoyed by the strength of Guardians Of The Galaxy, Frozen, Captain America and Maleficent, The Walt Disney Co. will cross $1B in domestic box office today after reaching $2B internationally on August 4th. Disney also crowed today that it moved into second place in domestic market share and that it marks the ninth consecutive year and 18th year overall that the studio has reached the $1B threshold. To put this in some perspective, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen, which opened in November 2013, played well into 2014. It has earned over $1.27B worldwide. That one picture.

As studios tout these numbers, which are good for chest pounding, the more interesting numbers would be the spreadsheet showing which pictures sailed to profitability. Maybe one day, right? (Ahem).
