The same day NBC announced it had picked up The Night Shift for a second season, the hospital drama jumped 25% from last week – from a 1.2 to a 1.5 demo rating– solidifying its 10 PM timeslot dominance. It was the night’s second highest-rated program, behind only its lead-in, America’s Got Talent (2.6/9). The Night Shift ginned up its biggest overall crowd (7.164 million viewers) since its May 27 premiere (7.669 million).
Fueling The Night Shift, America’s Got Talent was even with its most recent original in the time period (a repeat aired in the slot last week), beating its combined competition in the demo, while inching up from same night last year’s 2.4 demo ratings. NBC wound up with a 2.2/8 for the primetime night, and 9.686 million viewers. Next best was CBS tied with ABC, at 0.9/3 for the night. CBS clocked 6.22 million viewers to ABC’s 3.139 mil. CBS relied on repeats of NCIS (1.0/4, 9.967 million viewers), NCIS: LA (0.8/3, 11.927 million ), and Person Of Interest (0.7/2, 4.849 million). ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss, meanwhile, shed 10% of last week’s demo rating, for a slimmed down 0.9.3 (3.753 million viewers), after which Celebrity Wife Swap slipped 31% from last week, to a 0.9/3 (3.010 million).
