RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘Crossbones’ Steady In Week 2, ‘What Would You Do’ Rises, ’20/20′ Up, ABC Wins Night

There was a break from the NBA Finals and the NHL Stanley Cup Final on Friday but there was still action on the seas on TV last night, in more ways than one.  The only network with a full schedule of originals, NBC started its Friday primetime with Brian Williams Reporting: Journey To Normandy (0.9/4). Including an interview with President Obama, the anchor’s heartfelt hour-long tribute to the heroes of D-Day on the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the liberation of Europe from the Nazis drew an audience of 5.8 million. The special was followed by a 1-hour and 1-minute Dateline (1.3/5), which was even with last week’s 8 – 10 PM episode.

The second week of Crossbones (0.9/3) saw a 9% slip for the pirate drama from last week’s debut. Holding on to almost of its premiere’s draw among Adults 18-49, the Blackbeard re-telling got a total audience of 3.84 million last night, down 21% from the 4.91 million who tuned in for its May 30 debut. Because of Major League Baseball preemptions on NBC in San Francisco and Philadelphia, expect some changes when the final numbers come in.

Overall NBC came second for the night in the key demo with a 1.0/4 while ABC took the top spot with a 1.3/5 rating. ABC won or tied for No. 1 every time slot last night. The peacock won the night in terms of total viewers with 5.22 million watching. CBS, Fox and The CW were all encores on Friday.

After kicking off the night with a Shark Tank (1.1/5) repeat, ABC followed with Week 3 of the new season of  Primetime: What Would You Do? (1.3/5). The hidden camera series saw a two-tenths rise from its May 30 show. Ending the night, 10 PM’s 20/20 (1.5/5) bopped up 7% from last week. The news mag show was the top rated program of the night while NBC’s Dateline beat it by a nose to be the most watched show on Friday with a viewership of 6.06 million.
