Expect more Trips Down Baby-Boomer Memory Lane on CNN, after its news-demo win last night with The Sixties. According to Nielsen Fast National data, the Tom Hanks/Gary Goetzman produced project debuted last night as the No. 1 program on cable news at 9 and 10 PM ET among adults 25-54, and finished just behind Fox News Channel in overall audience.
At 9 PM, The Sixties bagged a 190% increase in the demo 25-54 (284,000 vs. 98,000) and a 312% increase in total viewers (1.390 million vs. 337,000) when compared with the network’s prior four-week average in the timeslot. The episode, When Television Came Of Age edged out FNC in the demo; FNC maintained its total viewer top spot with 1.919 million tuned in. The encore presentation at 10 PM averaged 243,000 in the demo, inching past FNC’s 239,000. Among total viewers CNN averaged 946,000, behind FNC’s 1.428 mil.
“What began last night, and will unfold over the course of the next 11 weeks, is what the audience also wants and expects from us,” CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker said today in a memo to staff. “CNN is evolving. Our commitment to news, investigative journalism and inspired storytelling is what we are all about,” he added.
That said, last night’s The Sixties was no match in the demo for the 508,000 that The Sixties: The Assassination Of President Kennedy got last November 14th, or the 354,000 that Cannabis Madness: Dr. Sanyay Gupta Reports snared when it aired on March 11.
