Callas, the long-gestating project about famed opera singer Maria Callas, is gearing up again after originally being announced a few years back. New York-based Belladonna Productions and Australia’s Eclectic Vision have now boarded the film that is to be written and directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider). She is currently in post on Disney’s sports drama McFarland starring Kevin Costner, Maria Bello and Homeland‘s Morgan Saylor. Callas will focus on the singer’s tragic relationship with Aristotle Onassis. The European/Australian co-production will be produced by Gudio, Nicola and Marco De Angelis of the De Angelis Group and René Bastian and Linda Moran of Belladonna Productions, with Brett Thornquest of Eclectic Vision co-financing. Filming is eyed for late fall on location in Italy, France and the Czech Republic. The producers are out to cast.
