Edgar Ramirez In Talks For ‘Point Break’; Pic Set For Summer 2015 Release

UPDATED: Edgar Ramirez is in negotiations for the lead role of Bodhi in the Point Break remake. Ramirez would replace Gerard Butler, who exited the project last week. Warner Bros today also dated Point Break for an August 7, 2015, release. The pic updates the Kathryn Bigelow-helmed 1991 original to center on a former extreme sports athlete-turned-FBI trainee assigned to go undercover to investigate a string of robberies by a band of fellow adrenaline junkies. Ray Winstone recently was cast in the role of Pappas, and Luke Bracey is playing the undercover cop Johnny Utah role originated by Keanu Reeves. CAA-repped Ramirez recently wrapped the Roberto Duran biopic Hands Of Stone opposite Robert De Niro. German actor Clemens Schick also has joined the cast in the role of Roach, one of the members of Bodhi’s gang. He most recently appeared in the Matador pilot for Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network and is repped in the United States by Timaeus Group and in Germany by Above the Line. Alcon is prepping for a June production start with Ericson Core directing. Point Break will open against Fox action pic Assassin’s Creed and Sony/Columbia horror comedy Goosebumps.
