Fox Film Exec Gavin Smith Declared Dead

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said for the first time that 20th Century Fox film executive Gavin Smith is dead. The revelation came during a report last night on KNBC-TV Los Angeles. The latest break in the case of Smith, who went missing on May 1 in nearby Oak Park, CA, came in March 2013, when LA sheriffs confirmed they found Smith’s black Mercedes 420E in a Simi Valley, CA storage locker the previous month. “Evidence in there and from other sources has led investigators in the case to preliminarily reclassify this as a homicide, though no body has been found,” an LASD spokesman said at the time. The storage unit is linked to John Creech, who is serving an eight-year prison sentence, KNBC reported last night. Officials searched Creech and his wife’s West Hills, CA, house more than once as part of the longstanding investigation. Smith, a Fox distribution exec and former UCLA basketball player, is said to have met Creech’s wife in rehab.
