TriStar Wins Will Ferrell Comic Pitch ‘The Yank’

EXCLUSIVE: TriStar has pre-emptively bought The Yank, a pitch for a star vehicle for Will Ferrell to play a mild mannered insurance courier who gets caught up in a conspiracy to steal the Crown Jewels in London. The fish out of water comedy will be written by Steve Pink and his writing partner Jeff Morris, and Mosaic is producing with Gary Sanchez Productions.

It’s the second significant star-driven pitch material deal this month for Tom Rothman’s division, after beating out several suitors to close a deal to finance and distribute Ricki And The Flash, a hot package that has Meryl Streep playing a hard rocking mama, with Jonathan Demme directing a script by Juno‘s Diablo Cody, and Marc Platt and Mason Novick producing. TriStar is separately prepping for production on the Robert Zemeckis-directed 3-D experiential film To Walk The Clouds about the French aerialist Phillipe Petit who crossed between the Twin Towers on a wire in 1974. Charlotte Lebon, Ben Kingsley and James Badge Dale just signed on to star with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Pink and Morris are repped by UTA, with Pink managed by Mosaic and Morris by Principato-Young. Ferrell is repped by CAA and Mosaic.
