Sundance: ‘Love Is Strange’ Gets French Distribution Deal With Pretty Pictures

EXCLUSIVE: Love Is Strange, the new film by Ira Sachs which made its premiere last night at Eccles and got a rousing response including standing ovations for Alfred Molina and John Lithgow, has made a deal for French distribution with Pretty Pictures in a six-figure deal. The pic is in play for a domestic deal at well.

Pretty Pictures’ Aranka Matits called the film “one of the best American independents we have seen in a long time. We were immediately taken by Ira Sachs’ elegant and poignant portrayal of human relationships. The performances are top-notch, with John Lithgow and Alfred Molina delivering understated excellence.” Fortissimo’s Matits and Nicole Mackey made the deal. Pretty Pictures’s recent releases of fest-centric films includes Winter’s Bone, Meeks Cutoff, Compliance and Detachment, and Wadjda. Next up are Dancing In Jaffa and the Jessica Chastain-starrer Miss Julie. WME Global is repping domestic rights.
