RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘Trophy Wife’ Bounces Back, ‘The Voice’ Pushes ‘POI’ Down
A little over a month into the season, it seems like people have set their viewing habits. Indicating that television has largely become an appointment viewing medium, with Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. airing a repeat last night, the available audience at 8 PM didn’t migrate to any of its broadcast competitors, CBS’ NCIS, the CW’s The Originals, NBC’s The Biggest Loser or Fox’s The X Factor. NCIS (3.0 in adults 18-49) and The Originals (0.9) were even with last week’s numbers. The Biggest Loser (1.8) was down 10% to a season low, while Fox’s The X Factor (1.5), airing off-pattern its first episode in almost three weeks, was down 25% from the last original and on par with the performance of Fox’s Tuesday comedy block. Need more proof? ABC comedy The Goldbergs (1.7), which was never a compatible lead-out for S.H.I.E.L.D. anyway, kept steady from last week despite the superhero drama airing a repeat vs. original last Tuesday. Encouraging news for fellow new ABC comedy Trophy Wife (1.4), which rebounded from its recent declines with a 17% ratings jump. Airing from 9-11 PM, NBC’s The Voice (3.5) was down 13% from last week’s hourlong episode to a season low. Facing The Voice, CBS’ Person Of Interest (1.8) retreated 18% to a series low after edging NBC’s Chicago Fire for its first demo win in the 10 PM hour last Tuesday. NCIS: LA logged a 2.6 fast national for a third consecutive week. The Originals has already made its case for a full season pickup, which should be coming momentarily. It proved a perfect companion for CW veteran Supernatural (1.1), which was up a tenth from its fast national last week, with both shows up more than 20% week to week in adults 18-34.
