EMMYS: Director, Designer, & Band Named

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA, July 30, 2010 – Four-time Emmy® Award recipient Glenn Weiss and two-time Emmy® Award recipient Steve Bass have been named to the 62nd Primetime Emmy® Awards production team, Executive Producer Don Mischer announced today. Weiss returns as Director and Bass as Production Designer of the telecast, airing live coast-to-coast on Sunday, August 29 (8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT) on NBC from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. Also returning to the Primetime Emmys for an encore performance, is the 17-piece “dream team” band under the direction of Steve Jordan and David Paich and comprised of renowned rock, jazz and studio greats, including guitarists Dean Parks and Ray Parker, Jr., keyboardist Michael Bearden, saxophonist Tom Scott, bassist Darryl Jones and percussionist Lenny Castro.

As Executive Producer of seven Tony Awards and Director of the last ten, Glenn Weiss has received four Primetime Emmy Awards. Aside from collaborating with Mischer in 2009 for the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards, the pair has joined forces on many other projects, including working as co-executive producers of the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Super Bowl Halftime Shows with Prince, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen respectively. In addition, Weiss has directed numerous television specials which recently includes The Neighborhood Ball: An Inauguration (2009), the Academy of Country Music Awards (2009, 2010) and the American Music Awards (2008, 2009) among many others. Weiss’ television series credits include The Singing Bee, Wanna Bet?, Star Search and more.

With two Primetime Emmy Awards and over 20 years experience designing in the entertainment industry for such large scale special events as the Grammy Awards, Tony Awards and Emmy Awards, Steve Bass’ breadth of work crosses all mediums. His signature talents have been tapped for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Atlanta Olympics, The Democratic Convention and the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Additionally, Bass’ work can be seen on Good Morning America, American Idol, Entertainment Tonight, World News with Diane Sawyer and Dr. Phil. Mischer and Bass first teamed up for the 53rd Primetime Emmy Awards in 2001.

Weiss and Bass each hold 2010 Emmy nominations for their work on the 63rd Annual Tony Awards in 2009.

For only the second time since 2004, the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards will feature a live band as part of the telecast. Following its Primetime Emmy debut in 2009, the 17-piece band returns for 2010 featuring guitarists Dean Parks (America, Steely Dan) and Ray Parker, Jr. (Raydio, Ghostbusters), keyboardist Michael Bearden (Michael Jackson’s last music director), Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Tom Scott, bassist Darryl Jones (The Rolling Stones) and percussionist Lenny Castro (Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton) . The all-star ensemble will be on-stage throughout the show.

Primetime Emmy Award-winner Steve Jordan (Saturday Night Live, Late Night with David Letterman) is music director for the three-hour show, while six-time Grammy Award-winner David Paich (Toto) will serve as co-music director. Additional members of the band include jazz great Gene Cipriano (Peter Gunn) on woodwinds, trumpet virtuoso Rick Baptist (The Incredibles), Grammy-winning jazz trombonist George Bohanon, keyboardist Tom Rainer, harpist Gayle Levant (The Bucket List), violinists Alyssa Park and Endre Granat, violist Karen Elaine and cellist Cecilia Tsan.
