RATINGS RAT RACE: Amidst NFL Football Pre-Emptions, ABC Wins Night, ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Up

Just like Thursday, last night saw all of the Big 4’s primetime schedules taking pre-emptions from local coverage of NFL preseason games. That means, like the night before, that everything is inflated in preliminary ratings results. The CW also had football pre-emptions in about 11% of the country as Season 20 of America’s Next Top Model (07/2) went into its second week. The long running competition show had some would-be models of both sexes walking down a building in the rain, a wedding shoot and saw the contestants cut down to 14 with two sent home. As the players went down, the numbers went up for the Tyra Banks-led show last night. Friday’s 9 PM one-hour ANTM was up 17% among adults 18-49 and flat among adults 18-34 from last week’s two-hour premiere. The show also saw a viewership increase from 1.57 million watching on August 2 to 1.92 million last night. Of course with the football pre-emptions, expect those results to change when the final numbers come in Monday.

The only other originals on broadcast last night were Would You Fall For That? (1.5/5) and 20/20 (1.4/4) on ABC. Remembering the context of the football pre-emptions, the freshman hidden camera show was up a massive 67% from last week. The news mag show also rose, up 27% from its August 2 show. With that ABC won the night among adults 18-49 with a 1.6/6 and among viewers with 5.442 million watching. An 8 PM Shark Tank repeat was the top rated show of the night with a 1.8/7 while a 9 PM Dateline repeat was the most watched with 6.30 million viewers.

Still blacked out on Time Warner Cable in markets like NY, LA and Dallas, CBS was all repeats last night. Fox and NBC were also all encores on Friday.
