FX’s ‘The Bridge’ Debuts Strong Internationally

Looks like The Bridge crosses the globe fairly well. With a July 11 start, Fox International Channels’ weeklong rollout of international premieres for the new FX US/Mexico border crime series more than 3 million consolidated viewers for its first episode. The show garnered an average rating of 1.58 in FIC’s 19 metered pay TV markets, which include Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Poland, Spain, Singapore, Australia, Finland, Italy, Portugal and Malaysia. The episode topped the adult 18-49 demos in cable in Italy and Spain and saw Top 5 results in other markets. Overall The Bridge, which is adopted from the Euro-series Bron about a bridge connecting Denmark and Sweden, debuted in 70 countries worldwide and is expected to reach a total of 110 eventually.  In FebruaryFX picked up a 13-episode order of the series domestically. The Bridge debuted on FX on July 10 to 3.04 million viewers. A co-financing agreement with Shine International delivered FIC first window broadcast rights on the Shine America/FX Productions series

While managing a strong debut, which is projected to reach 4.5 million viewers when the total distribution numbers are in, The Bridge lags behind FIC’s No. 1 international premiere The Walking Dead. In the same markets that The Bridge were launched in, the 2010 debut of the ratings busting zombie apocalypse series pulled in 5.1 million viewers. Of course, while not counted in the viewership comparison, The Walking Dead also debuted in the UK, a territory that FIC does not hold the right to for The Bridge. Overall The Walking Dead debuted in 122 countries three years ago compared to the 70 that The Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir starring series first launched in.
