Ratings Rat Race: 'Big Brother' Return Solid

ABC Wipeout and CBS’ Big Brother’s first face-off this summer ended in a draw. The season premiere of Big Brother at 8PM averaged a 2.4 rating/9 share in adults 18-49, up 4% from last summer’s debut. Facing Big Brother, Wipeout (2.4/8) took a hit, down 14% in the demo from last week for a season low.  In total viewers, Wipeout held the edge: 7.9 million vs. 7.3 million  for Big Brother.

ABC’s once promising new scripted drama Rookie Blue (1.6/5) at 9PM continues its downslide, shedding another 11% from last week. At 10PM, ABC News Primetime: Boston Medical (1.1/4) was down 15% week-to-week, finishing distant second in the hour behind a drama rerun on CBS. At Fox, a Glee repeat (1.3/4) led to new So You Think You Can Dance (2.1/6), which was flat with last week.

NBC aired a wall-to-wall reruns of freshman comedy Community. CBS, which followed Big Brother with repeats of CSI (1.4/4) and The Mentalist (1.6/5), won the night in adults 18-49 (1.8/6) and total viewers (7.6 million).
