Another week in the summer season and another reality show makes its debut. Last night it was NBC’s The Winner Is (1.9/6). Created by The Voice co-producers Talpa Media USA, the short-run series hosted by Nick Lachey is a mix of a game show and singing competition series with contestants vying for cash prizes or a verdict from the experts panel. On the ninth-show finale a $1 million grand prize will be up for grabs. The second-most-watched and second-highest-rated show Monday, The Winner Is was up 12% in adults 18-49 from NBC’s premiere of the Mark Burnett-produced Stars Earn Stripes on August 13 last year and down a tenth from the season finale of previous slot occupant Revolution last week. The top summer debut so far on any network, The Winner Is runs for one more Monday before moving to Thursdays on July 11.
A two-hour live performance edition of The Voice (3.2/10) served as The Winner Is‘ undoubtedly helpful lead-in. The night’s most-watched show with 11.54 million viewers, Voice dipped 3% from last week, tying a performance show low as the final five contestants of this season sang two tunes each heading into tonight’s results. As is typical with live shows, though, expect an adjustment in the final numbers later today. With 9.89 million watching, NBC won the night in total viewers and adults 18-49. (more…)
