RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘American Idol’ Steady, Super Bowl Ads Show Rises, ‘Guys With Kids’ & ‘Neighbors’ Tie Series Lows

Three weeks into its 12th season, last night’s two-hour American Idol (5.4/14) headed to San Antonio for more auditions. The second-to-last audition show of the season was by far the night’s most-watched show, pulling in 15.59 million viewers. Steady with last week’s fast nationals, last night’s Idol did slip 8% from the comparable Season 11 show. That could change, however; last Wednesday Idol actually went up a tenth when the finals came in. Still, Fox won the night in viewership and the adults 18-49 demo.

Leading into Sunday’s big game, CBS’ Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials 2013 (2.1/6) offered a sneak peek at some of the big ads scheduled to air during the San Francisco 49ers-Baltimore Ravens matchup. Hosted by The Talk’s Aisha Tyler and former QB Boomer Esiason, the one-hour show was up 5% from last year and drew 9.97 million viewers, making it the second-most-watched show of the night. Greatest Commercials 2013 was up more than 1 million viewers from last year’s 8.58 million for its best showing in two years. The rest of CBS’ primetime featured encores of Criminal Minds (1.6/4) and CSI (1.6/4).
