R.I.P. William Windom

Veteran TV actor William Windom, who won an Emmy for his turn in the short-lived 1969 comedy series My World And Welcome To It and went on to score guest appearances on numerous TV shows, has died. Windom died August 16th of congestive heart failure and his home in Marin County California, his widow Patricia told the LA Times. Windom was 88. My World was based on the work of the humorist James Thurber and Windom developed a touring one-man show inspired by the same whimsical American humor. He acted in countless TV series including episodes of The Twilight Zone, Star Trek, The Love Boat, Barney Miller, Mannix, Ironside, Gunsmoke and many others. Beginning in the mid-80s Windom appeared on more than 50 episodes of Murder, She Wrote playing a country doctor opposite Angela Lansbury’s Jessica Fletcher. He also played the prosecuting attorney who matched wits with Gregory Peck’s Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird.
