CW's Liberal 'Arrow' Hero Targets “Wealthy And Corrupt”: TCA

Is it the right time to trot out a liberal superhero suffering from PTSD who’s hellbent on justice and revenge? The CW believes it is with the introduction of Arrow, based on the characters from the hugely popular DC Comics series Green Arrow, which will run Wednesdays at 8 PM beginning October 10. The new series’ TCA panel this morning featured producers Greg Bertlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg along with stars Stephen Amell and Katie Cassidy. The hour figures to give conservatives plenty of ammunition during this election season as it promotes a vigilante protagonist who likes to use weapons to “right the wrongs of his family and fight the ills of society” while embodying something of a populist agenda. Kreisberg admitted his lead character’s liberalism (culled from that of the comic version of Green Arrow) is embedded in the DNA of the show. “People that Oliver (Amell) is targeting are the wealthy and the corrupt,” he said. “There are some echoes of the one-percenters and Occupy Wall Street within the show. He’ll have that sort of man-of-the-people, stick-up-for-the-little-guy aspect.” (more…)
