Adding to his gallery of rogues and other dodgy characters, Hugo Weaving plays a cop with questionable motives in Mystery Road, writer-director Ivan Sen’s thriller which started shooting this week in central Queensland. Aaron Pedersen has the lead role of an indigenous detective who returns home to an Outback town to solve the murder of a teenage indigenous girl. True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten  plays a pig hunter and Jack Thompson is a pastoralist who’s seen better times. The cast also includes Tony Barry, Tasma Walton, Damian Walshe-Howling, David Field and newcomers Trisha Whitton and Siobhan Binge.  Mystery Road was financed with the assistance of Screen Australia, Screen Queensland and pubcaster ABC-TV.  Gary Hamilton’s Arclight Films has international sales rights. It will be released in Australia by a new distributor, Management of Doubt.
