EXCLUSIVE: Endemol Studios is staffing up. The Los Angeles-based independent scripted television studio operation of Endemol USA, which launched last August, has hired Russ Buchholz to serve in the newly created position of VP, development, effective immediately. He will oversee the development of new scripted TV programming and U.S. adaptations of scripted series from Endemol’s international portfolio, reporting to Endemol Studios’ head of creative affairs Jeremy Gold. “Russ has a keen eye for great material, a demonstrated ability to take a series from concept to air successfully and terrific relationships across the creative community,” said Gold, who first joined Endemol in 2008 to launch Endemol USA’s scripted TV development division.
Endemol USA’s first foray into scripted programming was with AMC’s drama series Hell on Wheels, which has been renewed for a second season. Since the August 2011 launch of Endemol Studios, the unit has landed two drama pilot orders, ABC’s Red Widow, which has been picked up to series for mideason, with ABC Studios co-producing, and AMC’s Low Winter Sun, which is casting, with AMC Studios co-producing.
