RATINGS RAT RACE: 'Shark Tank' Hits Friday High, 'Grimm' Bounces Back

ABC’s Shark Tank (1.8/6 among adults 18-49) jumped 20% from last week to post an all-time Friday high last night. It also tied CBS’ Blue Bloods as the top program of the night in 18-49. The halo effect carried over to 9 PM where ABC’s Primetime: What Would You Do? (1.5/4) was up a tenth. But at 10 PM, 20/20 (1.4/4) dropped the ball, literally, shedding 18% from last week and costing ABC the top demo spot for the night. ABC (1.5/5, 5.2 million) was edged by CBS (1.6/5, 10.3 million) in 18-49, with the eye network as usual in full control of the total viewer race.

CBS’s A Gifted Man (1.22, 8.8 million) ended its Friday 8 PM run with a whimper, once again tying its series low. The freshman drama moves to the Friday 9 PM slot next week where it will finish its abbreviated first season. CSI: NY (1.7/5, 10.3 million) and Blue Bloods (1.8/5, 11.8 million) were both up a tenth in the demo from last week. How big is CBS’ total viewer dominance on the night? The next most watched program of the night was Shark Tank with 5.9 million.

NBC’s freshman drama Grimm (1.6) proved that it does well when its run is not interrupted, up 14% from last week despite its lead-in, Who Do You Think You Are? (1.2/4) being flat. NBC has successfully killed the show’s momentum multiple times with pre-emptions, most recently for the Chuck finale 2 weeks, which led to a 22% ratings drop for Grimm in its return last Friday. NBC’s newsmagazine Dateline (1.5/4) was the biggest demo gainer of the night, up 36% from last Friday, with a program devoted to one of the most talked-about stories at the moment, murder suspect Josh Powell’s gruesome killing of his young sons in a shocking murder-suicide. Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares (1.5/5) was down a tenth. Fringe (1.1/3) was even with its series low-tying fast national last week, down a tenth form the final. Ditto for the CW’s Supernatural (0.7/2). Nikita (0.5/2) was steady.
