'The Cabin In The Woods' Tapped To Open SXSW; Initial Slate Unveiled

The SXSW Film Festival released its initial slate of films Thursday, including six world premieres and one North American debut. The festival launches March 9 with the world premiere of Lionsgate’s The Cabin In The Woods. The thriller is the directorial debut of Emmy-nominated writer Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, Lost, Alias) and is produced and co-written by genre storyteller Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer). The film joins five young adults who head to the woods for a weekend of debauchery and is described by SXSW as a “mind-blowing horror.” It stars Kristen Connolly, Fran Kranz, Anna Hutchison, Chris Hemsworth, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford, and Lionsgate opens the film wide April 13.
