UPDATED with more info: Just as we told you, a Mandalorian spinoff series is already in the works from Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, in fact there are two: The Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka Tano, the latter based on that famed Clone Wars cartoon character brought to life by Rosario Dawson this past season on The Mandalorian.
Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy announced the news today at Disney Investor Day, and she expects one of the series to hit next Christmas on Disney+. That’s when she said flagship The Mandalorian will launch its own Season 3.
Kennedy also gave a look at the Rogue One spinoff Disney+ series Andor centering around Diego Luna’s Rebel character Cassian Andor. Production began in London two weeks ago.

During the investor day presentation Thursday, Disney+ also confirmed details of Star Wars spinoff series including The Acolyte, a mystery-thriller from Leslye Headland “that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era”; Lando, a new event series in early development from Justin Simien; Star Wars: Visions, an original series of short films from Japanese anime creators coming in 2021.
The Star Wars TV series also made news today saying that Hayden Christensen is returning as Darth Vader for Obi-Wan Kenobe starring Ewan McGregor.
