Street Artist Plastic Jesus Places ‘Best Supporting Role’ Exhibit On Hollywood Boulevard In Annual Oscars Zing

The street artist known as Plastic Jesus has struck again, installing a walker on Hollywood Blvd. and proclaiming it eligible for the “Best Supporting Role.”

In what’s becoming a pre-Oscars tradition, the guerrilla artist – who has previously put up art objects mocking Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Hart, among others – has installed a red carpeted podium and a gold-colored walker. It comes affixed with a tag: “Please return to props department.”

The Harvey Weinstein reference is obvious, since the disgraced movie mogul has been seen using the walker to enter and exit his rape trial in New York.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Plastic Jesus stated, “The supporting role is one that is often over-looked. Without great support so often the lead character can appear shallow, fake or inauthentic. This year I’ve decided to honor the support given to many leading figures within the movie industry, without whom great performances would be nothing more than a charade”. #harveyweinstein #weinstein #hollywood #oscars #academyawards #oscars2020 @ Hollywood Walk of Fame

The installation is located on the 7900 block of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea, where the full-size Oscar statutes at the start of the Hollywood Walk of Fame are a big tourist photo attraction. Plastic Jesus – who asked that his real name not be used because of the quasi-legal nature of street art – removes the installation after a few hours each day, then returns it back for a few hours.

He told Deadline that he will try to keep it up through this Sunday’s Oscars, although “I don’t know, if it’s on the street, it will probably get stolen.”
Last year, Plastic Jesus installed a statue of Kevin Hart, which stood at exactly 5-foot-4 inches tall, like Hart himself.  The statue depicted him waiving a rainbow flag and standing on a platform that read, “Hollow Apology.”

Plastic Jesus also previously placed Harvey Weinstein at the location in 2018, showing the mogul wearing a bathrobe while seated on a “casting couch.” He’s also placed mockups of the Oscar statue snorting cocaine in 2015 and Kanye West posing as Jesus.
