The Toronto Film Festival will not be holding a formal awards ceremony this year, instead announcing winners of its Grolsch People’s Choice Award and juried competitions via TIFF’s social media channels.

The Grolsch has been an Oscar Best Picture bellwether in the past, with winners out of TIFF including Green Book, The King’s Speech, 12 Years a Slave and American Beauty (to name a few) going on to win the movie awards season’s top prize.

Toronto made the decision to announce the award recipients via press release and social media owing to the fact that by the festival’s 10th and final day, many filmmakers have left the city. “Capturing them on social media allows them to celebrate their Award and for audiences to share the moment.” a TIFF rep told Deadline.

In lieu of Toronto’s planned ceremony that had been set for Sunday, the festival’s Platform prize and the FIPRESCI awards will be handed out today, the festival told Deadline.
