UPDATED with post-surgery status: Kevin Hart is doing “great,” according to his wife Eniko Hart, following back surgery Sunday night. The actor and comedian underwent an operation after a single-car accident early Sunday, and his wife told TMZ “he’s going to be just fine.”

Hart is expected to remain at Northridge Hospital Medical Center for a few more days.

The driver of Hart’s vintage Plymouth Barracuda was identified as Jared Black, 28. After the crash occurred early Sunday morning on Mulholland Highway, Black was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center, where he’s understood to be surrounded by family members as he recovers. A third passenger, Rebecca Broxterman, 31, was not hospitalized.

PREVIOUSLY, Sunday, 1:55 PM: Kevin Hart was injured in a serious car accident early Sunday morning in Calabasas, Deadline has confirmed.

The Night School actor is recovering from “major back injuries” after his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda veered off the road and rolled down an embankment at 12:45 a.m., according to a statement from the California Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle collision happened on Mulholland Highway just east of Cold Canyon Road.

Hart was not driving at the time of the crash and there were two other people in the vehicle. The driver and a woman were trapped in the car. Hart left the scene to get help, the CHP said.

Once rescue crews arrived on scene, the driver was still behind the wheel and was determined not to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.

Hart was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, and the driver was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, also with major injuries, the CHP said. The woman suffered only minor injuries.

TMZ was the first outlet to report on the crash. The website obtained photos and video showing the mangled vehicle off the side of the road. In one photo, the car is upside down. In another, the roof is completely removed.
