CNBC

UPDATED with statement: Shark Tank star Daymond John will not be hosting a weekend event at a West Palm Beach, FL strip club, which has been advertising his appearance on billboards near the venue.

A spokesperson tonight told Deadline that a report in the the Palm Beach Post that John will have a one-night stand August 17 at the Spearmint Rhino Gentleman’s Club in West Palm Beach was the first John had heard of the event, saying it was set up by a third-party booking company.

“Daymond works with a booking company that books him for nightclub appearances every now and then,” the spokesperson said. “He was unaware of the type of venue this appearance was scheduled for, and once he was made aware, he immediately decided to not participate in the appearance and informed both the booking company and the venue that he will not be attending and does not want to be tied to this event. All advertising relating to the event is in the process of being removed.”

According to the Post, the appearance is being advertised on two large billboards with John’s likeness, and the club has confirmed to inquiring patrons that yes, John will be hosting an event there. The club is also handing out bookmarks that mimic the billboard ads featuring John.

The successful entrepreneur was the founder of hip-hop clothing line FUBU and is the founder and CEO of The Shark Group, a brand management and consulting firm. John is also well-known as an author and motivational speaker.

He has been a key member of ABC’s Shark Tank panel since the show’s inception.
