Kamala Harris’ CNN Town Hall Sets Demo-Viewership Record

Kamala Harris drew 20,000 people to her first campaign rally Sunday in Oakland, and it looks like she has drawing power on the small screen as well. CNN said today that its Monday night event with the junior senator from California was “the most-watched cable news single-candidate election town hall” ever among the 25-54 news demo.

The Town Hall with Sen. Kamala Harris boasted 712,000 adults 25-54 from 10-11 p.m. ET, easily beating Fox News and MSNBC. CNN also led all of primetime cable news in the demo Monday.

In total viewers, the Town Hall with the newly announced Democratic White House hopeful averaged 1.96 million, a 75% gain over CNN’s prior four (1.12 million).  MSNBC had 2.35 million and Fox had 2.26 million total viewers at 10 p.m. ET.

Meanwhile, Fox News noted today that it now has been the No. 1 cable news network for 17 consecutive years. FNC first became No. 1 across the board in primetime and 24-hour total viewers and in the 25-54 demo at the end of the Nielsen month in January 2002.
