‘SNL’: James McAvoy Riffs On ‘The Bachelor’ And ‘Chronicles Of Narnia’

Saturday Night Live‘s guest host James McAvoy anchored the show’s return to two favorite targets: The Bachelor and Chronicles of Narnia.

The Bachelor riff was punctuated by female cast members asking each other, “Can I steal him for a sec?” before telling the bachelor “Mmm, I missed you.” This go-round featured McAvoy playing a version of “virgin bachelor” Colton Underwood, who at one point confesses, “I’m a little backed up.”

The roundelay of female suitors get increasingly demented in their approaches. “I mostly do P.R. – Puerto Rican,” says Cecily Strong matter-of-factly. “I bet you don’t remember my name,” ventures Ego Nwodim a moment later. “You know I don’t!” McAvoy sunnily replies. “And if I guess, you’ll guess I’m racist.” Nwodim then adds, “I’m black and I have black hair so, ‘Goodbye.'”

Kate McKinnon then leads the four-minute bit to its surprise conclusion by making a confession to McAvoy that doesn’t bode well in terms of him ending his streak.

In the new take on Narnia — which doesn’t come anywhere near the heights of the SNL short Lazy Sunday — McAvoy plays Mr. Tumnus, who likens to “Frodo, but without the baggage and drama.”

In this imagining, Mr. Tumnus is visited by three women staying in a nearby Airbnb, who somehow go “through the wardrobe” and find themselves in the fantasy land of Narnia.

Here are both sketches:
