Stan Lee Tribute: Mark Hamill, Amy Pascal, RZA, Kevin Smith To Honor Marvel Icon

Program and ticketing details are emerging about the Jan. 30 tribute to Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee, who died Nov. 12 at age 95. The program, which is titled “Excelsior! A Celebration of the Amazing, Fantastic, Incredible and Uncanny Life of Stan Lee,” will be a ticketed event that begins at 4 p.m. and includes testimonials, stage interviews, live music, a photo and memorabilia exhibition, and “an honor guard of world-class cosplayers.”

The announced participants include Mark Hamill (Star Wars), RZA (rapper/producer, Wu Tang Clan), Jeph Loeb (Marvel Executive VP, Head of Television), Rob Liefeld (Co-creator of Deadpool), Tom DeSanto (Executive Producer, X-Men), Joe Quesada (Chief Creative Officer, Marvel Comics), Bill Sienkiewicz (artist, Elektra: Assassin), Marv Wolfman (creator of Blade), Clark Gregg (star, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Felicia Day (creator/host of The Guild), Michael Uslan (Executive Producer, The Dark Knight), Bill Duke (actor, Predator), Gill Champion (POW! Entertainment), as well as cast members from three television series based on Marvel Comics characters: FX’s Legion, Fox’s The Gifted, and Hulu’s The Runaways.

Filmmaker and Comic-Con maven Kevin Smith will moderate on-stage conversations with  entertainment industry figures, pop-culture celebrities and luminaries from the comic book world. The creative team behind Sony’s Oscar-nominated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse — a contingent including Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and Avi Arad — will honor Lee during one portion of the program. A second Hollywood delegation that will take the stage to honor Lee will be led by producers Lauren Shuler-Donner and Derek Hoffman, representing Fox’s now-venerable X-Men franchise that spans film and television over several decades.

The program will feature music and poetry that Lee counted among his passions as well as a  video tributes from top celebrities, dignitaries, and peers. Late additions to the program will likely include live appearances by some of the most famous names and faces in Hollywood.

At the famed forecourt outside the Hollywood Boulevard venue, ticketed fans will be allowed to leave flowers, candles, and sign a book of condolences in a memorial area that will be centered around Lee’s cement imprints.

Also outside: Lee’s life and work reflected in a exhibition of photographs, classic comics, artwork, memorabilia, tributes and portraiture.   The White Castle Crave Mobile will be serving sliders, Lee’s favorite snack, for all the fans.

A police band of pipes and drums will provide musical accompaniment for the outdoor program which culminates in a cosplay assembly to give a “final salute” to the co-creator of Spider-Man, the Hulk, Black Panther, the Avengers, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer, Doctor Strange and hundreds of other Marvel characters that include heroes, villains, mutants, gods, monsters, aliens, robots, and cowboys.

The producers of the events are Legion M’s David Baxter and Terri Lubaroff; POW! Entertainment’s Bob Sabouni ; and Agents of Mayhem’s Darren Passarello. Veterans in Media & Entertainment and the American Legion of Hollywood Post 43 will also be on hand to honor Lee, who served in U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II.

J.C. Lee, daughter of the late Marvel icon, is also involved in the memorial event. Some of Lee’s most famous collaborators from Marvel Comics of the 1960s will be represented at the event by their family members, including Tracy and Jeremy Kirby, the grandchildren of Jack Kirby; Mark and Stephen Ditko, nephews of Steve Ditko; and Jenna Parker, daughter of Sol Brodsky.

Tickets will be available through a Legion M event page. Net proceeds from the event will go to The Hero Initiative, a long-time non-profit organization that offers support and resources to comic book creators in need.
