Ramy Youssef Set For His First HBO Stand-Up Special

Ramy Youssef has signed for his first stand-up comedy special for HBO. No premiere date is set for the hourling show, which will be taped before a live New York City audience in the spring. Youssef wil executive produce alongside Jerrod Carmichael. A24 is producing it, with Chris Storer directing.

Youssef stars in Hulu’s upcoming sitcom Ramy, which he also co-created with Carmichael, and Ari Katcher. A24 also is producing that series, which doesn’t have a launch date yet. It is based on the real-life experiences and comedy of Youssef, who also is co-writing with Katcher and Ryan Welch. The series takes viewers into the world a first-generation American Muslim who is on a spiritual journey in his politically divided New Jersey neighborhood. Ramy explores the challenges of what it’s like being caught between an Egyptian community that thinks life is a moral test and a Millennial generation that thinks life has no consequences.

The comic’s TV credits also include an arc on USA’s Mr. Robot and co-starring opposite Scott Baio and Alanna Ubach in Nickelodeon’s 2012-15 comedy See Dad Run.

“Ramy is an incredibly unique talent, and we’re so excited to be presenting his first stand-up special,” said EVO HBO Programming Nina Rosenstein, EVP HBO Programming.
