STXFilms And Kevin Hart Join For Two Projects, First Up Is ‘Black Friday’

After enjoying the $20.4M No. one box office opening of The Upside starring Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston, STXfilms is putting two more Kevin Hart comedy projects into its development pipeline. This comes after Deadline exclusively reported last week on Hart’s next film, Fatherhood which he will do for Sony after he completes his reprisal role in Sony’s sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

STX Entertainment announced that it will partner with HartBeat Productions to produce two new comedy projects with an eye for Hart to star in both. This comes after STX approached Hart and Hartbeat Productions’ President of Film/TV John Cheng with two separate pitches, the first titled Black Friday which is described as “a body switching comedy based on a story by Doan La.” The second is an untitled, international romantic comedy which is currently looking for a writer.

As part of the deal, Hart and Cheng will produce both projects and HartBeat’s Carli Haney will oversee with STXfilms’ SVP of Production Drew Simon.

Hart is represented by UTA, 3 Arts and Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams. Doan La is represented by The Gersh Agency, The Gotham Group and Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Krintzman Rubenstein Kohner & Gellman.
