EXCLUSIVE: Just over a week before the 2019 Sundance Film Festival starts and After the Wedding writer-director Bart Freundlich has already notched one big deal.

Set to have the Opening Night film slot at the Robert Redford founded shindig, the Mozart in the Jungle helmer has signed with WME for representation in all areas. The remake of The Night Manager director Susanne Bier’s 2006 Oscar nominated Best Foreign Film will have its world debut on January 24 in Park City.

Starring Michelle Williams, Billy Crudup, Abby Quinn, and Julianne Moore, who is Freundlich’s spouse, the new version of family drama After The Wedding flips around gender as well as location. Still set in India but now New York City too, the remake has the Manchester By The Sea star taking on the lead role played by Hannibal‘s Mads Mikkelsen in the Danish original. Both versions still focus on an orphanage manager who is invited to a revelation filled nuptials. As those who saw the Bier’s helmed film will know, secrets get tossed out into the spotlight for almost all concerned.

Speaking of all concerned, Endeavor Content and Cornerstone Films will co-represent domestic sales for After The Wedding at Sundance. Now with WME, Wolves director Freundlich will continued to also be repped by MGMT Entertainment and attorneys at Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham

Running from January 24 to February 3, SFF will see Deadline co-Editor-in-Chief, Film Mike Fleming Jr., myself and Anthony D’Alessandro leading our coverage in Park City and beyond. We will also have our Deadline Studio up and running again as we talk to filmmakers like Freundlich and others about their projects and the festival.
