‘The Sopranos’ Prequel Adds Corey Stoll & Billy Magnussen

Count Corey Stoll and Billy Magnussen in for New Line’s Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of NewarkThey join Alessandro Nivola, Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga.

Except for Nivola playing Dickie Montisanti, most of these roles are being kept secret. Magnussen is set, and Stoll is still in final talks.

The HBO Emmy-winning series is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and Deadline Editor-in-Chief Mike Fleming conducted several interviews with creator David Chase as well as castmembers as part of a four-part oral history.

Chase is co-writing the Many Saints of Newark screenplay, which is set during the 1960s Newark riots, with producer Lawrence Konner. Alan Taylor is directing.

In regards to the big screen, Chase previously made his feature directorial debut with 2012’s Not Fade Away about teenagers trying to make it big with a band. That pic, which made under $700,00 at the box office, was also set during the 1960s in suburban New Jersey. Late Sopranos star James Gandolfini also starred in that movie.
