‘Game Of Thrones’ Creators David Benioff & D.B. Weiss Set For Career Honor At VES Awards
Winter is coming — tomorrow, in fact — and the duo behind HBO’s Game of Thrones is getting their due from the Visual Effects Society. The VFX group said today that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will receive its VES Award for Creative Excellence at its 2019 trophy show.
VES says the honor “recognizes individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the art and science of the visual effects industry by uniquely and consistently creating compelling and creative imagery in service to story.” The GoT creators, writers, directors and executive producers will pick up their hardware during the 17th annual VES Awards on February 5 at the Beverly Hilton.
“David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are groundbreaking storytellers who have redefined the relationship between the viewer and the story,” VES Board Chair Mike Chambers said. “You can easily see this from the epic following of Game of Thrones, a pop culture phenomenon, which is a testament to their expert blending of visual effects, evocative characters and a remarkable imagination.”
Thrones is no stranger to VES Awards, of course. The drama laid waste to its rivals again at the 2018 ceremony, taking five awards. It has won more than two dozen of them since the series launched in 2011. It will end with Season 8, which premieres in April on HBO.
