Deadline wrapped its Coffee With Creators panel series at the Toronto Film Festival on Monday with the team from The Death And Life Of John F. Donovan, Xavier Dolan’s latest movie that is prepping for its world premiere tonight in the fest’s Special Presentations section.
Dolan will join star Kit Harington, Thandie Newton, Emily Hampshire and Sarah Gadon on the panel, sponsored by RBC and Nespresso. They are part of a loaded ensemble cast that includes Jacob Tremblay, Natalie Portman, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates and Ben Schnetzer in the pic.
The plot: John F. Donovan (Harington), heartthrob star of film and TV, died alone and unexpectedly following a series of scandals. One fan in particular, 11-year-old Rupert Turner (Tremblay), has some singular insight as for five years he and John were secret pen pals. The adult Rupert (Schnetzer) writes a book as an adult of his experiences, providing rare look into one man’s life.
Donovan is the fourth film from Dolan to play at TIFF, and is his English-language debut.
