‘Outlander’ Renewed For Seasons 5 & 6 By Starz; Season 4 To Debut This Fall

They are still filming Season 4 in Scotland but Starz announced today that Outlander will be back for a fifth and sixth run as well.

With Season 4 set to debut in November, premium cabler boss Chris Albrecht unsurprisingly kept his word from TCA this January when he told critics and fans “I wouldn’t worry” about the very well watched  Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan starring time travel romance drama  based on Diana Gabaldon getting at least two more seasons.

“Fans can rest assured their beloved Claire and Jamie will be back facing new challenges, adversaries and adventures in seasons five and six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World,” said Albrecht Wednesday of the upcoming 12-episodes each fifth and sixth cycles.

Season 3 of the Ronald D. Moore EP’d series saw the Balfe and Heughan characters washed up ashore in what is now the state of Georgia, as occurred in Gabaldon’s 1993 published Voyager novel. As Moore told Deadline earlier this year, the 13 episodes of Season 4 of the Sony Pictures TV produced series will draw from the 1996 book Drums of Autumn.

In case you are wondering, today’s renewals  doesn’t mean they are anywhere near the end of Outlander’s potential run. As Seasons 5 and 6 are inspired by 2001’s The Fiery Cross and 2005’s A Breath of Snow and Ashes novels, there are still two more books in the best selling series already. Add to that the fact that Gabaldon is working on another that is entitled Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, which more than likely will be published in the next year or so.

All of which means, the love between Claire and Jamie that is Outlander could go at least as far as a Season 9 …just saying Chris.

As it is, Season 5 and Season 6 are expected to premiere in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
