Actress Sarah Drew came to the defense of her Grey’s Anatomy co-star Kelly McCreary after fans were dragging her on Twitter and blaming her for the departure of Drew’s character, April. “I know these characters mean so much to you — believe me, they mean a lot to me, too — but I do not feel defended when you attack my friends,” she said on Twitter.
The tweet attacks are a result of McCreary’s character Maggie Pierce developing a relationship with April’s ex Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams). Many fans blame the new relationship for the departure of April from the show — which means Drew will be leaving the show.
“My beautiful, loving, loyal sister, Kelly, is a brilliant, fiercely talented team player who ALWAYS shows up and dedicates herself to the stories she is asked to tell,” added in Drew in her tweet. “Please stop attacking her for doing her job. When you hurt her, you hurt me. When you show kindness to her, you show kindness to me. Please be Kind.”
This isn’t the first time fans have played the tweet blame game with the cast of Grey’s Anatomy. Ellen Pompeo was faced with backlash after fans blamed her new $20 million salary was the reason for Drew and Jessica Capshaw’s departure.
