Jimmy Kimmel: Rudy Giuliani Giving Unhinged Interviews So Donald Trump Looks “Normal”

UPDATED with video: “Did you hear about that big, very old, very scary volcano that erupted over the weekend?” Jimmy Kimmel asked his audience. “His name is Rudy Giuliani. He was mayor of NYC at one time, and he is a lawyer now, and spokesperson for Donald Trump.”
After 36 hours of off-the-rails Giuliani interviews on the President’s behalf last week, in which the former NYC mayor contradicted Trump’s position about payment to Stormy Daniels, Trump jumped in to explain that Giuliani is new at this lawyering thing, and doesn’t yet know all the facts. Then Trump immediately sent Rudy back out for a whole new round of interviews over the weekend.
“He had a chat with George Stephanopoulos yesterday. That finally cleared everything up once and for all,” Kimmel snarked.
The ABC late-night host tried to untangle Rudy’s weekend word hairball.
When ABC’s Sunday Beltway show host Stephanopoulos asked him if Trump knew about Michael Cohen’s payment to Stormy, Rudy responded, “Can’t say that,” adding, “At some point, yes, but it could have been recently, it could have been awhile back. Those are the facts that we’re still working on and that, you know, may be in a little bit of dispute. This is more rumor than it is anything else.”
Except, Stephanopoulos reminded Rudy he had previously “stated this as fact.”
Undeterred, Rudy replied:
“Well, maybe I did. But right now, I’m at the point where I’m learning. And I can’t prove that. I can just say it’s rumored. I can prove it’s rumor. But I can’t prove it’s fact.”
Kimmel had a theory: “I think their strategy right now is to put someone out there who is even nuttier than Trump, to make him look normal by comparison.”
“And it’s working.”
