‘American Idol’ Wins Sunday Demo But ’60 Minutes’ Tops Total Viewers; ‘Last Man On Earth’ Ends Season 4

American Idols second live-across-country broadcast (1.8 demo rating, 8.6 million total viewers) drove ABC’s easy Sunday win in the 18-49 demographic. While down a hair relative to last Sunday’s first live Idol-cast on ABC, the already renewed reboot of the singing competition finished No. 1 for the night in the age bracket – a talking point it has pulled off in all nine of its telecasts this spring.

Idol’s lead-in, America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.1, 5.53M), was the night’s only other show to crack a 1.0 rating in the demo. Opposite Videos, CBS’ 60 Minutes (0.8, 8.91M) dominated the night in total viewers, trouncing NBC’s newsmag Dateline (0.6, 3.17M) as well as Fox’s Bob’s Burgers encore (0.4, 1.03M) and original (0.7, 1.52M).

Against Idol, Fox’s The Simpsons (0.9, 2.1M) and Family Guy (0.9, 1.93M) held steady, while Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.7, 1.65M) dipped. The network’s 9:30 PM bubble comedy Last Man on Earth (0.7, 1.71M) closed its season with numbers mirroring last season’s wrapper.

Following Idol at 10 PM, ABC’s Deception (0.7, 3.39M) was off a tenth of a point. But, even so, it dominated CBS’ Madam Secretary (0.5, 5.92M) and NBC’ Timeless (0.5, 2.26M).

ABC (1.3, 6.16M) took the night in the demo, and CBS (0.7, 7.38M) won in total viewers while tying Fox (0.7, 1.66M) for second place demo-wise. NBC (0.5, 2.74M) followed.
