The English Patient star Fiennes and Vicky Cristina Barcelona star Hall would lead McDonagh’s adaptation of the well-received novel by Lawrence Osborne, about the dramatic fallout following a random accident on the lives of an English couple (Fiennes and Hall), their friends and the local Moroccans who all converge on a luxurious desert villa during a decadent weekend-long party. Production is slated to start early next year in Morocco.
Elizabeth Eves will produce alongside McDonagh through their production company House of Un-American Activities. CAA packaged and is repping U.S. rights, with IMR International handling foreign sales and introducing the film to buyers in Cannes next week.
This was a hot prospect going into the market and IMR, the JV between Insiders and MadRiver Pictures, has nabbed it. In Cannes, the firm will also be handling sales on David Robert Mitchell’s Cannes Competition entry Under the Silver Lake with Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough, The Torture Report starring Annette Benning, Adam Driver, and Jon Hamm; What Is Life Worth with Michael Keaton and Jacques Audiard’s The Sisters Brothers starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Joaquin Phoenix.
Next up for Fiennes is Etan Cohen’s Holmes And Watson for Columbia Pictures and he just wrapped production on The White Crow for BBC Films, which he directed. Hall is known for big screen roles in Vicky Cristina Barcelona and The Town. She will also star in Holmes and Watson later this year. Kingsman and Zero Dark Thirty actor Strong currently stars as Max Easton in Fox series Deep State. Acclaimed French-American actor Taghmaoui, who is of Moroccan descent, is known for La Haine, The Good Thief, Hideous Kinky, The Infiltrator and Wonder Woman.
Fiennes is represented by CAA and Dalzell and Beresford; Hall is repped by WME and Julian Belfrage Associates; Strong is repped by Markham, Froggatt and Irwin and WME; and Taghmaoui is repped by Markham, Froggatt and Irwin and Agents Associés.
